This closer combat makes the action more visceral. If you think action movies let the hero knock out a villain with one punch, this game will teach you otherwise. This leads to a surprising number of hand-to-hand combat encounters, which has been revamped to allow Drake to take on a number of enemies at once. In Drake’s Deception, the enemy seems smarter, often flanking you if you stay parked for too long.

In Among Thieves, it was possible in some areas to camp out and deal with each enemy as they popped their head up from cover. What has changed is how much movement is needed this time around. The shooting mechanics are largely untouched, still employing a cover system that will punish you if you break it. Don’t worry, getting into a fight is also fun. The thrill of the chase returns over and over, with unique camera angles to make running away from the fight a lot of fun. Similar to Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, there are more than a few jaw-dropping scenes that will leave you asking whether or not your eyes are playing tricks on you. Drake’s Deception takes the time to examine each of their loyalties and if a little poetry is forgiven, they find the pillars that keep their relationship upright. For more than two decades, they have always been by one another’s side. This time around, the primary focus of the game is in the relationship between Sully and Drake - the accidental father figure and the son he never had.

Large set pieces aside, the true heart of the Uncharted series is in how the characters interact with each other. The skyline of London by night is only topped by the beauty of Yemen by day from above. You may control him, but he tells you where to go.įrom the dark streets of London, to a broken down chateau in France, from the busy markets of Yemen to the great Rub’ Al Khali desert … all of the environments feel motivated, different and above all, beautiful. There is a story to be told here and the character is not you. Make no mistake, this is not an open world game.
